Patrick Hunter Tribute
It is with sadness that we pay tribute to Patrick Hunter who passed away on Sunday 1 October 2017 at the age of 85. Patrick had not been in good health since the beginning of the year. His wife Joyce also passed away last December.
Patrick was a legend within the ranks of ANSA from its very early days and over the years held numerous executive positions at a National and NSW level. Patrick was awarded life membership of ANSA National (1983) and ANSA NSW in recognition of his contribution and service to ANSA at both a national and branch level. Patrick was also a life member of Western District Sportfishing club.
Patrick was also one of the foundation members of Recfish Australia, the very first national recreational fishing peak body established to serve the needs of all recreational fishers across Australia. Patrick held various roles within Recfish Australia during its challenging formative years.
Patrick was acknowledged as a true gentleman within the ranks of sportfishing and his calm and articulate manner when expressing a point of view was always a major selling point in getting the right message across. Patrick was an inspiration for many from within ANSA who have taken on the challenge to serve ANSA at an executive level.
Patrick’s funeral service was held on 10 October at Rookwood to a full house of family and friends to reflect on Patrick’s life. Wayne Evans and Sam Bugeja from Western Districts SFC and myself were in attendance. Much was said of Patrick’s lifetime passion for recreational fishing and as a parting gesture an ANSA sticker was fixed to the bow of his casket to let everyone know he was on his way to another fishing trip. Patrick’s family were delighted with this gesture.
Patrick will be fondly remembered by all who had the good fortune to know him and his traditional presence and words of wisdom at the ANSA National AGM will be sadly missed.
RIP Patrick – good fishing.
